[supplier of thermal liquid heat transfer systems and a process plant designer]Process/Project Manager [Chemical, Petrochemical, and Cogeneration Plants]
- Developed PFD and PID
- Fluid flow and pressure drop analysis
- All control loops for the process and utilities
- Designed and purchased
- Shell and tube heat exchangers
- Fired heaters and combustion control systems
- Electric heaters and control systems
- Pressure vessels/tanks
- Pumps
- Control valves, flow meters, level/temperature/pressure instruments
- Control and power panels
- Designs involved high temperature thermal liquid heat transfer systems used in chemical reactor and other process equipment. Heat transfer media used were high temperature water [300°-400° F], heat transfer oils [400°-700° F], and molten salt [500°-1000° F].
Plant Startup Experience
- Performed startup services on over 50 projects around the world
[U.S., Holland, Japan, Taiwan, India]
Specifics included:
- Construction checkout
- Initial equipment "debugging"
- Final commissioning of the equipment including combustion controls
- Fine tuning of instruments and operator training
Operating Instructions / Safety Training and Analysis
- For over 50 projects, prepared detailed operating and maintenance instructions
- Led the operator training sessions to describe the equipment and review safety concerns
- Participated in HAZOP and PHA sessions to assure a safe plant design
Expert Witness
- Testified in a suit involving a fire with property damage and personal injury.
This involved a valve misoperation on a fuel fired hot oil heater.
- Testified in a suit involving the failure of a pipe shell in an electric fired hot oil heater.
- Investigated a textile plant fire where 3 fired hot oil heaters were located.
It was proven that the heaters did not cause or contribute to the fire.
- Investigated the design and construction problems with a large fired hot oil calender system that included three temperature control skids.
